I noticed that the tool I use for Gannish analysis is now available for free. I recommend checking it out here. You can’t beat the price.
I use TC2000 and export the data to Metastock format and it imports right into Gannalyst. You can setup TC2000 to automatically export the Metastock data after a nightly update. There are several other options for data.
If you download it and have comments about the software you can add them to this post. I may be able to answer some based on my year of experience with the tool. If I cannot then maybe another reader can.

Gannalyst is free, but to use it requires that I buy a subscription to TC2000. Is that correct?
Actually Gannalyst doesn’t interface with TC2000 at all. It will read a Metastock format which TC2000 generates. Gannalyst sells other data sources at their website. I have played around and got it do work with free data downloaded from Yahoo, but I would not want to do that everyday. Any data source that generates Metastock format or a text file in a user specified format will work.
Hello and Andy-great site by the way. I woke-up today with the sole mission to get that particular software to work with my EOD yahoo downloads I download with a yahoo google historical quotes downloader I got from:http://www.amichel.com/ydownloader/ How did you get your yahoo quotes loaded and working. I am pretty frustrated. Thanks in advance. Mike
Mike – I did it over a year ago and can not remember how I got the text files working. I did it only as a test and decided the Metastock format worked better for me. I do know that I did get them to read in by setting a number of options in Gannalyst and formatting the file as described in the help section of the site. It looks like the author has removed the help files. I suggest emailing him and asking for the method of reading text files.

Looking at my version shows a tab for Metastock and CSV data. You need to use the CSV tab and set it up as it asks. The directories/folders must be setup in the Preferences dialog under the File menu. I do remember that once set it is difficult to change. The program is not very user friendly, but works great to do what it designed to do.
Mike – I like your site. I added it to my xLinks section.
OK – I needed all the DOW data so I got Yahoo working again. It took me about 15 minutes but it takes some outsmarting the Gannalyst interface.
–
I downloaded the daily price data of the DOW back to 1928 in CSV format.
–
I opened the file in Excel, sorted by ascending date, and changed the date to yyyymmdd format.
–
I saved the file and opened Gannalyst. Went to preferences and set the directory to read CSV data from.
–
Created a new portfolio and clicked the CSV tab. Select the CSV data file. It will read it and show the first line. I said ignore the first line which contained the headers.
–
I set the format matching the format in my file. Note, if you get to this point and return later you need to trick the program by removing the last field and replacing it to make the Next button accessable.

It think that was it. I have the DOW chart up using the CSV file now.
Andy, I was just wondering if you had any problems opening certain securities in Gannalyst. I have had a play around and noticed that the securities I can not view/open in Gannalyst are the securities that are missing from the EMaster and Master Files from my Metastock Databases. These securities are found in the XMaster Files. Are you able to explain why this is happening to me, does this happen to you? Thanks in advance
Trent – not really. I don’t understand the file structures. TC2000 creates Master dat and dop files. I do know there is a limit to the number of data files Gannalyst allows – 255. There is a DLL that allows up to 2000 files into Gannalyst which needs special handling to make it work. I think TC2000 has a limit to the number of files it exports. I only dump less than 100 at this time and do not have a problem.
Hi Andy thanks for those comments. You mentioned that there is a DLL that allows up to 2000 files into Gannalyst which needs special handling to make it work. Where can i find this dll or any information on it?
Cheers
Trent – my version of Gannalyst came with a couple PDF files that discuss the DLL. The Getting Started file contains a discussion of the DLL. The Grid tab in Preferences is where you enable it (lower right hand corner). Let me know if you don’t have the PDF files (main program directory) or if your preferences tab doesn’t provide an option to enable this.

I have not used the DLL. If it isn’t with the package then maybe you can find it with Google.
Andy, thank you that solved my problem, your a champion!
Hi,
I noticed this blog and I am using tradestation, want to know how to export trade station data to ganalyst. tia.
yingli
yingli – I don’t know anything about tradestation. If you can export the data into this format, Gannalyst will read it.

The above is the first few lines of my DJIA data file. If your data is in a slightly different format, Gannalyst can be setup to read it.
Hi,
you mention that you use CT2000. Does Gannalyst have all the necessary funtionality to do a good gann-based analysis?
Rasto – I use TC2000 to generate the Metastock files I read into Gannalyst. You can also use any method that generates a text file of prices. As far as does Gannalyst do Gann? That depends on what you definition of Gann is. It will easily generate time cycles and fans. It does price retrace and extensions. It does a few other things I don’t use. It does not do astrology if that is what you are looking for. I question how much astrology Gann used as I find it not needed.

Bottom line: It is free so I suggest that you try it and see if it meets your needs. I am not associated with Gannalyst but I push it because it is free and I use it. It was not always free and I paid $300USD for my copy. I got my money’s worth.
Is there any ideaof how to apply time analysis in a productive way?
