Price Time Volume Investing

A few weeks ago I posted about using the Top 100 Growth Stocks list on the right sidebar for finding potential buys when the market turns up. I decided to parse though my C++ code to see what beer induced formula I came up with a few years ago.

In a previous post I discussed my thoughts on sentiment and price volatility. I want to provide a few charts showing direct measures of volatility that work better than sentiment surveys and derivative metrics such as the VIX.

We are now wondering if sentiment is too bearish and the market will go up. Why would it go up? Because people bearish? No. The market doesn’t care what anyone thinks or feels. It goes up because everyone has sold that will sell.

I’ve been reading Bill McLaren’s work for a couple years and the thing he stresses the most are the day to day swings of the markets. The idea is that the trend will always have more days and points in the direction of the trend than the counter-trend.

I will be taking a two week vacation from my day job (software engineer).

In general, the concept is to find the best fundamental stocks that have the highest relative strength and momentum. The list has worked well for me for me over the years. There are several fundamental calculations I use, but the main effort is to find the best Year over Year growth stocks with a ROE over 15.

This is the first in a series of posts meant to provide a guide to those who have been emailing about my “method”. What I do is very simple. All that is needed is a price data and a tool to plot it.

Last night my server provider performed some maintenance that lasted over one hour.

In a post earlier this week I discussed my aversion to arbitrary scaling of angles and numbers in the square of nine. In this post I want to show mathematically why it is wrong to multiply/divide by an arbitrary number (usually 10) in an attempt to make the data fit the tool.

The square of nine is often referred to in writings of and about WD Gann. Based on the books I have read, the actual square traces back to the pyramids and Gann learned of it at some point in his life.

I have a number of dynamic files that need a php script to generate HTML for display. I create formatted text files that will be read and turned into tables for viewing.

I changed the longer term SPX chart I have shown before to a weekly chart for clarity. The 1440 level hosts a merger of three angles that may draw price up. It looks to be about three weeks away so we could visit the 1:1 ascending Gann angle from the Oct-Mar range shown yesterday which is near SPX 1375.
