Day Four Retrace of Six Day Swing

November 10th, 2008 2 Comments

This move certainly isn’t a strong trend up. A four day retrace is not a good sign - but not the end of the world. The chart from the October 10th low shows somewhat of a cup-with-handle formation. Today was inside the second day of the retrace on lower volume. While not bullish, it does setup a bullish thrust (if that is what the market wants to do). Continue reading

Rally Day Nine - Another Test of the Low

October 23rd, 2008 2 Comments

The SP500 Index tested the October 10 low again and reversed back up on higher volume today. This action is an accumulations day. Unfortunately, the Nasdaq ended the day about 0.7% lower on higher volume which is distribution. The Dow moved similar to the SPX in an accumulation day. Continue reading

Volume Off But Price At New Swing High

August 6th, 2008 No Comments

Volume was off a little today but I would not call it light. Price of the SP500 Index (SPX) finally moved above the swing high but did not close above this point. Price did finish at the highest close of the swing though. I’m still not super excited because we are nearing overbought and only marginally higher than we were 11 days ago. Continue reading

Price Remains Below the High of Rally Day Six

August 5th, 2008 2 Comments

The Nasdaq 100 (NDX) remains range bound after today. Price action was very positive and volume was good. The SP500 Index (SPX) swing chart action has price below the day six high - even after todays big move. I assume that the open will take out this high. But where they close them is more important than where they open them. Continue reading

Weekend Outlook - 03Aug08

August 3rd, 2008 No Comments

The Smallcap 600 Index (SML) had the best week of all stock indices. It has been up four straight weeks on good volume. Last week was basically a lower volume consolidation week for the other indices. The SP500 Index (SPX) and Nasdaq Composite Index (COMPQ) both finished up but about where they started the week. The Dow Jones Industrial Average (INDU) finished slightly down. Continue reading

Follow-Through Day on All Indices

July 22nd, 2008 No Comments

The Nasdaq Composite (COMPQ), SP500 Index (SPX), Dow Jones Industrial Average (INDU), and Smallcap 600 (SML) all finished at highs on high volume. The Nasdaq 100 (NDX) finished at a high but about flat - which is not bad considering earnings misses. The SPX swing chart is very constructive. Continue reading

Accumulation Day for the Indices

July 17th, 2008 2 Comments

Price movement on higher volume than the previous day is good. The follow-through needs to occur after the third day to be meaningful. But it is never a bad thing to have a high volume move up off a low. Continue reading

Weekend Outlook - 05Jul08

July 6th, 2008 No Comments

The daily swing chart shows that the SP500 Index (SPX) is in bad shape. The weekly swing is in just as bad shape, but the monthly swing is in position to turn up in July. The market is constantly making lower lows with retraces of only a few days. Continue reading
